Most Popular Saltwater Mix
Saltwater Mix
Saltwater is essential for the survival of corals, fishes, and invertebrates. Different salt mix provides different levels of elements needed to support the growth of corals.
The traditional salt mix seeks to achieve the natural seawater element level. The top-tier salt mix elevates some of the key elements such as calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. This elevation may help promote the growth of corals. If you have a fish-only tank, there would be little benefits in the elevated elements.

All salt mixes will support marine life just fine but which is the most popular?
I’ve based this solely on sales volume from Amazon.com which is the larger retailer in the US. The only true way to know sales volume would be to obtain it from the manufacturer however I doubt the manufacturer will release this information.
Let me just stress that the most popular does not mean the most desired. The most desired may be one that is out of budget for the everyday hobbyist.
To look at this further, I’ve determined popularity based on the 5-gallon bucket and the traditional box and will break it down into those two categories.
Bucket vs Box
Which should you get?
In most cases, the box will produce more saltwater when compared to the bucket. If you need a few buckets to use around the house, or for water changes, you may prefer the bucket option. I personally get the one that is on sale.
Let’s take a look at the table below to see which item is the most popular on Amazon.com.
